4 Reasons Why Coworking Is Better Than Working Out Of Your Home

Mar 21, 2023 13:43:04 PM by

We all know that working at 9 to 5 job gets to be a drag. If you have a formidable commute, and have to struggle through rush hour to get there and back, that’s even more true. That’s the reason that so many of us strive to get out of that particular grind, and look for opportunities to work remotely.

Remote work has typically been accepted to mean “working from home”. While it provides a welcome relief from the aforementioned routine, and the chance to work in a comfortable environment, working out of your home is not without its pitfalls as well. For this reason, more remote workers and transitioning to coworking spaces instead. Here are some of the reasons why:

  1. You’ll be more productive.

There’s only one reason that people go to a coworking space: to get work done. Sure, you’ve got privacy at home, and it’s your own space. But you do a lot of other things at home as well, and many who work from home find that there are too many distractions. Between kids, pets, and household chores that seem to be calling your name every time you sit down to work, some days it’s a wonder if you can get anything done at all. At the coworking space, it’s an atmosphere of productivity. Surrounded, as you’ll be, by people being focused and engaged in work, it will be easier to do the same.

  1. You’ll increase your networking opportunities.

For some work, the solitude of working alone at home can be beneficial. But most of our jobs, or careers in general, depend at least to some degree on networking. At a coworking space, you can expect to find a diverse array of professionals who work in a variety of fields. Need an attorney to discuss a legal question that arose? That person might be sitting at the desk next to yours, as an example.

  1. You’ll achieve better work / life separation.

Many people leave the 9 to 5 office routine in order to find more work / life balance, only to find that there’s even less balance when they work from home. Many home workers report that they’re never really on their own time.  Both work and home life coexist under the same roof, often blurring the distinction between the two. Moving your work to a coworking space helps you set aside a specific block of time for work, and keeps your home / family life separate from your work.

  1. You’ll have other adult humans to interact with.

At first it may seem to be a luxury to be able to work alone at home, never needing to change out of your pajamas if you don’t feel like it. However, most of us ultimately long for at least some degree of interaction with someone besides the kids or the dog. At the coworking space, you’ll have plenty of people to talk to, whether it’s small talk at the water cooler, someone to run ideas for your project by, or something else, you’ll be glad to have people to converse with. The fact that most of them aren’t working for the same company as you can even be a bonus. The tedious issues of hierarchy and competition in a traditional office setting aren’t likely to be present at the coworking space.
