Why Should I Go To A Co-working Space If I Work Remote?

Mar 21, 2023 13:43:04 PM by

More than ever before, American’s are working remotely. A recent Gallup survey showed that 43% percent of workers in the U.S. spend some of their time working remote, with 31% stating that they work four to five days each week. The ability to telecommute is one of the most highly desired arrangements for today’s job seekers. Lots of people love the idea of being able to work from the comfort of their own home, even staying in their pajamas if they so choose.

But comfortable though it may be, their are some drawbacks to working from home. Home is certainly comfortable, but it may be too much so to really maintain the level of productivity that’s expected of you. Co-working spaces provide an ideal solution to for those who work remote. Here are some of the reasons why:

Being part of the office culture.

When you go to an office every day, you become part of a community of peers. Even if most of your work is relatively independent, there’s still the interaction with others around you. Conversations around the water cooler, lunches together, and even cake on a co-worker’s birthday help to form relationships and friendships. This fosters a sense of community and office culture which just isn’t found when you’re working at your own home. At a co-working space, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with other professionals. Though they may work for other companies and in other fields, they’re still professional and potentially like-minded individuals with whom you can discuss ideas over a cup of coffee. Some co-working spaces have even put effort into developing their own unique atmosphere or vibe.

Increased productivity.

As attractive as it may be to have the luxury, as one remote worker I know describes, to “do a videoconference wearing my bunny slippers”, the home is filled with distractions. From household chores crying out for your attention, to ringing doorbells and kids, there’s a lot at home that can suck your energy and lower your productivity. In the more professional, less distracting setting of a co-working space, most remote workers find their productivity increases. As an added benefit, after focusing on work and being productive while out, many people find it easier to give their undivided attention to home and family.

All the amenities are there.

It’s great, and most people see it as a luxury to avoid having to commute an hour or more in traffic to get to the office. But what happens when you need to meet a client, and you don’t really maintain a proper conference room at home? You could meet them at a coffee shop, but it’s not really the ideal environment to discuss sensitive matters. And, as well as your home office may be equipped, will you still need to run across town to get some printing done, or even to restock on coffee? At a co-working space, you can count on having all these amenities available at all times.
